Renewables are crucial and offer substantial socio-economic benefits, addressing energy access gaps while enhancing climate resilience. While greater investment in renewables is essential, enabling environment for private investors could trigger a range of risks for the host communities. The most promising sites for large-scale solar and wind projects in Sub-Saharan Africa are often in rural areas. However, their land-intensive requirement increases competition for land, impacting local livelihoods already vulnerable to climate change.
